Motorcycle - five times - ( Sam purses his lips before all of his worry can spill out, because clearly, Jack is fine, he's standing right in front of him, whole and unhurt. Jack also has that familiar, expectant look on his face, clearly waiting for his approval, and Sam can't bring himself to dampen that excitement. So instead, Sam rubs his hand across his mouth, then breathes out as much of his his anxieties as he can. He's spent enough of them worrying about Dean, anyway. )
That's great, Jack, really. I'm sure they appreciated the help. ( Sam affectionately pats Jack's shoulder, then chuckles a little despite himself - Jack is the only one who could learn how to drive by crashing it and just... getting back up again. It's very Winchester, he has to admit.
When did Jack even learned how to drive?, Sam thinks. How did I miss that?. A strange melancholy washes over him, and Sam doesn't have the first clue where it came from or what to do with it, so he pushes forward. )
Is your bike alright? It must have taken some damage. I could drive us to the bowling alley, if you'd like. ( And maybe Sam isn't quite ready to see Jack drive a motorcycle himself, no matter that he knows he doesn't have to worry about Jack getting his head smashed open - and, well, now that though is in his head, so Sam quickly turns off the lights to finish closing up the shop. )
@tataille
Still, even though it makes no sense that Benny doesn't know him, other than that, his story sounds an awful lot like Sam's own - minus a few key details. ) You were... in Purgatory? ( Sam knows that Benny gave himself up to the monsters in Purgatory so Dean could excape - and there's a twinge of guilt there, because it should have been Sam who got him out, as Dean has always made clear - but that was after they had met. )
Were you with Dean? ( Sam isn't relaxing anytime soon, and he's not letting Benny leave until they've sorted out if the other man still has a taste for human blood - but Dean is the priority. He always has been. )
@magike - the motels
Still, as he knocks on the door, he can't help but wonder what Rowena might be planning in the long term. She's too smart not to have at least plans A through D running by now, and she must hate Panorama. The side of Sam's mouth tilts upwards in something like a grin at the image of Rowena perusing the dingy stores downstairs, trying her best not to get any slime on her. ) Rowena? It's Sam.

jack's out (working at the job he so proudly found) when he knocks at the door, and hearing his voice brings a little relief. she'd already killed a banshee with a stranger; she didn't want to find anything else.
she's smiles when she opens the door, pretending for a brief moment that all of this is normal, that he's come to ask for a spell, some help, or just for tea. it doesn't help, but it's nice just to have a friend and not think about the shittiness of the situation. or the strangeness of it, given she doesn't yet have an answer about her resurrection )
Samuel. Should we start with tea or whiskey?
( neither are very good. she'd charmed the bottle of whiskey out the bar, though it was poor quality, and stolen the tea from the store magically. she needed something, and she didn't plan on any more debt )

Sam though, Sam he can always count on. From the first day he was alive, Sam has come through for him. Everything is better now. He can see that Sam is probably worried about the motorcycle and that is reasonable, given that a normal human would probably have been badly damaged, but he can see with his eyes that Jack is fine. Not a scratch on him. He did get scratched and cut up during the crashes, only for them to immediately close up like always, the pain a forgotten second. ]
It seems pretty sturdy, but I wouldn't trust you on the bike with me yet, I'm not a good enough driver. Let's go in yours!
[ Sam would probably be giant on the motorcycle with him so driving together would be a back up option, when a car with Sam makes more sense. Jack is proud of how good he's become with driving, but he's not so foolish as to think he's as good as someone who has been driving most of their life.
Jack stays close to Sam as they walk like he's afraid of letting him out of his sight, his anxious blue eyes fixed on him for that same reason. Now they just need to find Dean and they can figure out what to do about going home and dealing with Chuck. ]
Sam, I'm worried that we're not where we're supposed to be. Do you think Chuck would have sent us here instead of confronting us?
[ They did plan on trapping him through Michael, but maybe he saw through it. He doesn't understand his grandfather. Jack also hasn't figured out that Sam is from a different time so he assumes they are in the same moment of concern with God as their number one enemy. ]

( Once the garage is properly locked - he doesn't want to deal with another bitchfest from Chuck about procedure, even though it's his job as manager to close up - Sam keeps Jack close as they walk over to Sam's dusty, crimson Cherokee jeep. It's almost opposite the Impala in every possible way, modern and dirty, where the Impala is old but treasured, and that's how Sam wants it to be. Anything resembling his childhood home would hurt too much to drive without his brother by his side.
The reminder of Dean's absence makes his stomach churn, but he's able to push it away this time. It's easier to focus, now that Jack is here. He's no longer listless, roaming this cursed place like a ghost in search of his family. With Jack here, there's someone to anchor him in place, and Sam is grateful for that, at least.
After Jack gets inside, Sam starts up the car, then raises his eyebrows at Jack's question. ) Why do you think Chuck sent us here? He's been AWOL since Amara... well, he's been gone for a long time. ( It's the second time Jack's mentioned God, and while they've discussed him before, he hasn't been the main focus of discussion in their world-hopping mishaps. Lucifer had taken more of Jack's focus. The recent memory of the disappointment on Jack's face when he left Lucifer behind in the Apocalypse still stings, but Sam still can't bring himself to regret it. ) Honestly, this feels more like something Lucifer or Michael would do.

Depends. Are they up to your impossible standards? ( He means that as a compliment, truly. )

He frowns and looks over at Sam, puzzled. ]
Sam, Lucifer and Michael are dead. I killed Michael myself. I'm supposed to kill Chuck now, remember?
[ It cost them all dearly that he burned out his soul in the process, but Jack does not regret killing Michael. No, he hated the man, more than his father, more than Chuck. The others are enemies but Michael was Jack's personal enemy. He spent all that time in the other universe trying to get him and then finally took him down, but only at the loss of others first. He would do it again, Michael had to die. ]
Oh. Wait.
[ It sweeps into him all at once and he didn't expect this to happen again, but here it is. At least Sam does know him. Jack knows how much worse this could be. He gives one of his very sad faces. ]
Castiel is here too, I should have said that sooner, but Sam ... he's from before I was born. I guess whatever is taking us, it's out of time.
[ The look he shoots him is desperate, young. ]
But you do know me, right? I'm your adopted son?

You killed Michael - wait, Lucifer's dead? Kill Chuck? -- ( Shock rocks through him, almost physically doubling him over - the joy of Lucifer's dead, he's finally dead and the horror of Jack had to kill someone, Jack killed Michael, Jack says we're trying to kill God instantly at war within him. The wrestling of emotions in his chest, pushing past the shock and disbelief, almost keeps him from hearing what Jack says next.
He turns to the kid, eyes wide, and he's surprised to see such blatant desperation on his face. Castiel is here too -- that's important, and it's another lifeline thrown his way, just before he's sent overboard again with it's out of time. Sam squeezes his eyes shut, forcing himself to break down the avalanche of information into sizable pieces. ) Wait - okay, give me a second...
( Sam forces himself to take a breath, then opens his eyes again. ) You're saying that... you're from a future point in our timeline? And that Castiel is from...the past? ( This, somehow, seems more manageable to parse versus the "killing God" topic. ) I guess we've... we've traveled in time before, but not between universes and time. Why would anyone drag us here at such different points...
( But Jack is looking at him like a lost kid desperate for reassurance, asking if Sam knows him, and the instinct to soothe is immediate. He grabs Jack's shoulder gently, letting his own astonishment recede as he focuses on grounding Jack - even as the word 'son' rings like a bell in Sam's mind. They hadn't... Sam would never assume... but that had to be a conversation for a different time. )
Of course, I know you. You're Jack. Our nephilim kid who eats too much nougat, right? ( Sam gives him a teasing grin he hopes he reassuring enough, patting Jack's bony shoulder. )

Yes. I'm from the future. I killed Michael maybe a year ago. Lucifer died before that. Chuck brought him back briefly later, but he was killed very quickly again, so he's gone.
[ So quickly. Probably hours after he was resurrected. Jack feels nothing about that topic, his father was dead to him after the first time. In fact, Jack hated the very idea of ever seeing Lucifer again, which is why he reacted so violently toward Nick. He barely was able to react to his father showing up toward the end before Michael killed him. Now Jack has absorbed all of his power, but he can talk about that later as a concern. Two archangel Graces inside of him is a lot to handle.
This means that he's never been soulless to Sam though. And it means ... Mary is still alive to him. That instantly puts Jack in an inwardly spiral of panic. He can't talk about that now. Not when Sam is here and cares about him. He can't lose another parent. That will be a problem for future Jack, as people sometimes say. ]
Castiel says he is from when you were all fighting Amara and he let Lucifer possess his body.
[ He looks deeply relieved at Sam's reassurance but also anxious at the same time, all of his emotions laid out there openly on his honest face. He looks hopeful as he shoots a look toward Sam. ]
Yes. I'm so glad. If both you and Castiel didn't know me, I don't know what I'd do.

Okay, one thing at a time. ( He gives Jack's shoulder another light squeeze as he rearranges the pieces in his mind. ) So... okay. Michael and Lucifer are off the board. The world-ending threat is from Chuck this time. ( That isn't... great, considering he's God, but if that's happening back in Jack's timeline, at least this pocket-dimention...thing they're stuck in can give them time to strategize. ) Meanwhile, Cas is from right when he let Lucifer in...
( Sam puts his head in his hands and allows himself one second of frustration. Then, he takes a breath. If this is overwhelming for Sam, he can't imagine how Jack must have felt on his own, without even Cas to guide him. ) I'm sorry, Jack. That must have been hard, Castiel not knowing who you are. That was... a rough time for Castiel, too.
( He should let laying dogs lie, but Sam has to tentatively ask, for his own peace of mind if nothing else. ) And Lucifer... he's really dead? ( Then, carefully, remembering the disappointment that had radiated from Jack in the timeline he'd left behind, learning that Sam had left Lucifer behind in the Apocalypse world: ) How do you feel about that?
no subject
[ They couldn't do anything without Jack, he was the only chance they had against his grandfather. It's left him feeling very guilty and helpless about being here, that he's left his remaining family lost and alone behind him. But if Sam is here, and it can be out of time like this, it means they aren't lost. He might be able to go back to when he was and finish it like they needed. If they're in a pocket dimension until then, it's not over.
Jack watches him anxiously as he reacts with frustration, but he does understand. He's feeling particularly needy at the moment for Sam's attention and he can't take his eyes off him, as if even blinking could mean he'd be gone. Castiel not knowing him has been a disaster. ]
He's unwell, Sam. I can't help him. I just make things worse.
[ That's how Jack feels most of the time but especially in this situation with Castiel. ]
If you could reassure him that I'm not lying, I would appreciate that.
[ Castiel did allow him to stay around him but it was clear he didn't believe anything that Jack was saying, or at least not a lot of it. It was a lot to take in. Jack intellectually understands that, but he's a child desperate for his parents, and one of them doesn't believe him.
His eyebrows furrow at Sam. It occurs to him that Sam is from before Lucifer's death which means that Jack was at a point where he was trying to open up to Lucifer. He feels stupid about that now. Lucifer was so good at manipulating him. ]
I'm glad. He hurt my family, he betrayed me. You were right from the start, he's evil. I would kill him myself if I saw him again.
