MARKETABLE LMAO oh lottie
her brows cinch in thought, glancing at the water bottle. )
I โ guess so.
( not being from america, there wasn't a lot of 'brand-name' things for her to get used to it. capitalism and all that.
she shifts, shrugging her shoulders. )
I think it helps make it seem like this really isn't home. I would be more upset if this wasn't home but the water bottle was something from home. ( a bit of a mumbleโ ) If that makes sense.
LISTENNN
But.. Why the phones, then? You've seen them too, right.. The Nokia's?
[ The not Nokia's, that very much look like Nokia's. Like the ones her sister's had when they first came out, before the fun and slightly more modern keyboard based ones released in the early 2000's. ]
I think that makes me the maddest.. No iPhone's but we have Nokia's!

it's almost a little jarring that her main point of concern is that it isn't an iphone. so much so that it makes her laugh, stifling it into a hand.
this, at least, tells wanda that they come from very similar places. )
Do you miss the internet, then?
( why else would someone want a smartphoneโ? )
At least we can play that snake game.

[ It's unspoken, her of course. The duh seeping out between the lines, all mopey and sad. At least someone's laughing, that much reigns in the genuine despair at no google. Or instagram stories. Searching herself up on twitter.
Wanda finds amusement and her pout softens in turn, idly twisting and untwisting the cap to her water bottle. She doesn't clue into the fact they're from similar times just yetโ she's too busy being thankful her companion is semi-easy to read in that she can tell she isn't laughing at her.
Definitely with her. Much to her reliefโ she couldn't take an ego hit like that from a fellow hot person. ]
And you cannot convince me you find that fun.. Tetris would've been better. Or literally anything else!
'fellow hot person' awoiejoijf
that's not the kind of internet-use wanda is familiar with.
but she's been on tv! )
I mean, it's something.
( even if, sure, tetris might be more fun. the alternative would be having a phone with no games at all. )
I didn't grow up on the internet. ( this isn't a jab at lottie, butโ a glance at the green hair, and wanda makes a motion at it with her hand. ) Are you famous on it?
( (what's that supposed to mean re: the hair?? don't think about it too hard.) )
the camaraderie she feels is already bone deep fygauy
Luckily for Wanda, she doesn't experience either of those. Just a sheepish hand to the back of her neck, where the hair grows in brown but the ends shine a pretty copper green in the candlelight. ]
Sort of.. [ Saying yes seems like, the worst, so she opts to stay #humble, like Wanda would be impressed by how she doesn't mention her two million follower count. ] Definitely not like, since the beginning of the internet famous. Like, late 2010's recognition.
[ It's only added once she remembers I didn't grow up on the internetโ which is so spectacularly cool that she feels jealousy at it. Lottie is addicted to her phone, to checking her socials. Feels the empty sting of its absence when her hand digs into her pants pocket to find nothing but her stupid car keys.
She wonders what Wanda might be enamored with, in turn, as she offhandedly mentions, ]
..I did a collab with Nike?
she's so valid for it
she's never met someone 'internet famous' before. never had the chance to, anyway, even if tony stark was technically a celebrity in his own niche. )
Sounds like a big deal.
( regardless, wanda can tell that it's important enough for lottie. she isn't here to step on the accomplishments of others, or how they feel. especially when they're all certainly a little (a lot) lost here.
but, just in case she sounds dismissive, wanda adds, )
I didn't have a lot of time to be on the internet. My country, it was not very peaceful. What you do sounds like fun. ( doesn't everyone dream of it, once in a while? the allure of celebrity-dom? ) What year are you from? I come from 2015.
no subject
Uh, 2019.. I was in my apartment [ running away from tabloids about her boogers online (oops) ] when all this stuff happened.
[ She remembers 2015.. Only vaguely. A lot of her time is punctuated by events and posts onlineโ nothing outright personal. She wonders if it's the same for Wanda except, more lived in, she guesses? No internet means no blogging, no way she'd see all the juicy celebrity gossip of the time.. Her own head tilts in thought, ]
Where are you from? Maybe I've been there and we like, crossed paths?? I travel sometimes..
[ Sure, she totally mentioned her country wasn't peaceful, but what does that mean in the grand scheme of it all? LA sucks like, all the time!
(It actually means a lot, Lottie!) ]
no subject
wanda shrugs. )
I doubt you would have gone there. Our airport was shut down, and the only way in was through military or guerilla transportation.
( 'wasn't peaceful' as in an active war zone, lottie... )
It was called Sokovia, butโ ( thus, explaining her accent, this central eastern european flair in her pronunciation of words, ) it was destroyed a year ago, for me.
( is this ruining the vibe?
wanda glances at her, feeling a little rotten because lottie seems to be one of those people who doesn't look too far from their own nose, but she's also not at fault for what happened to her, to her people, her home.
so, )
I like your nails.
( the polishโ )
no subject
โShould she say her condolences?
... Is that too fake? Saying sorry your country exploded even though I didn't even know about it? ]
Ohโ!
[ It's true in that Lottie doesn't look too far from her own sphere, perfectly find with deluding herself with the normal so she won't have to reflect too hard on actions. People, things. So she happily takes the branch Wanda gives her, putting the bottle down to go, ] Thanks.. [ and then extend a hand forward, like the candlelight will be able to show the gloss of it in full. ]
I did it at home.. My toes, too.
[ Painted right over the other color she got done at the salon, a pretty coral blue. ]
I think the color is called Mauve Over? Super dumb, haha.
no subject
nothing with these enamel finishes, but she can still appreciate it. )
It's pretty.
( 'super dumb' or otherwise...
she draws her hand back. )
I wonder if they have nail polish in this place.
no subject
It's something she didn't quite know she needed to hear, being so far away from her normal. The thought of it almost throws her for a loop when a very real question is posed: can beauty hold up here? ]
They have to..
[ She needs them to. What will she do when she can't shape her nails? What will she do when her roots grows out? Brown and green just don't mix. Her fingers twitch at the thought, drawing back to her own lap in turn. ]
If we have dumplings we can have nail stuff.. Right?
CAN BEAUTY HOLD UP HERE? banger after banger
โwhat will she do when she can't shape her nails? what will she do when her roots grow out? brown and green just don't mixโ
and snaps right out of it, a brief smile on her face even as she looks up, the lamp in the room flickering to life suddenly.
(it's amusing, such normal and trivial concerns.) )
I'm sure they do.
( green eyes glance over at lottie's warm brown ones, and wanda offers the other woman a small shrug in commiseration. having proper light now allows wanda to see her properly now. )
I'll keep an eye out for things. ( and, standing up, she goes about to blow out the candles she had lit, only turning back for a moment to ask, over her shoulderโ ) Do you โ want to stay here for a bit?
( to hang out.
or whatever the girlies do. )
