The Resident A monstrosity that does not appear to hail from any familiar world, he stands nearly ten feet tall and is highly aggressive with four arms and a split jaw filled with needle-sharp uneven teeth. His flesh appears smooth but has a sharp grain not unlike a shark's. His presence is heralded by a heavy, acidic musk. Is he native to the planet or is from a place too terrible to name? For many who encounter him, that may be the last question on their minds as they stand frozen in terror. Though fearsome, he is blind and relies on smell and sound to track his prey.
The shadows continue to play tricks in their peripheral for a few more minutes, but it isn't long until they hear a guttural growl. The Resident pounces at them, opening it's split maw wide. It attacks aggressively, movements surprisingly quick for a beast this size. They will have to avoid its noxious bile that it shoots out like projectiles, burning any organic matter it comes into contact with. It will also use its tentacled arm to try and grab them if it can. But if it is successful, it won't try to kill them right away.
Instead, the Resident will draw any victims to its Offspring. This small, squid-like creature is just as aggressive and will propel itself towards any loud noise it registers. If it gets ahold of something living, it will wrap its tentacles around it and attach its many-toothed mouth like a lamprey on a whalefall. The Resident is clearly trying to hunt and feed the Offspring.
You can:
Kill the Resident and the Offspring. This will be the most difficult to accomplish and they risk the most injuries.
Kill the Resident and spare the Offspring. Though the fight will be hard, once the Resident is dead, the Offspring will simply begin to feed on it. However, if they watch it feed for long enough, they will see it double in size.
Spare the Resident and kill the Offspring. This will send the Resident into a wild frenzy. However, if they are able to remain quiet or avoid it for long enough, they may see it slink back into the shadows to attend to a nest of other eggs on the ceiling.
Spare both and leave. The Resident and the Offspring will give chase. Alisaie and Amos risk bumping into any mannequins along the walls as they try to escape. The temple wants to draw them in as deep as it can, but if their will to survive is great enough they can overcome it.
