Jack would never see it as a question of rank, as his father will always be ranked above him, always be the person he looks up to. Castiel often tried to protect Jack and sometimes that meant making choices for him, and ignoring the fact that Jack was more dangerous than any of them. He loved Jack, and in a way, coddled him. It means something to him that now he can be the strong one and the protector and that his power could be used for good.
Jack does not expect Castiel to go that far. The monster does try a half-hearted attempt at following the sound of the car, but the sonic scream threw its hearing off so badly that it simply couldn't get a read on exactly where he was. It gives up quicker than it ordinarily would, and Jack screams at it one more time before leaving to keep it off-kilter, since he has to rev up his motorcycle and head out too.
It's hard to leave. He can't help wondering if it's the right thing, to let the creature live. On one hand, this is its temple, so it belongs there, but it could harm and kill other visitors, and that's why they hunt. If Jack thought he could do it without destroying the temple, he probably would have, but it would simply be too dangerous. So he lets it go. He hopes that Dean wouldn't be mad at him for it. He's never been the best hunter.
Jack does catch up on his motorcycle, it's fast and it zips now that he's comfortable driving it. He pulls up next to Castiel and waves to show he's alive, and gestures for him to pull over. The temple and the creature with it are far behind them now, it's not going to follow. Jack with his sky blue helmet and innocent expression does not seem like the person who threw blows with a monster.
"Do you think I should have killed it? I don't know if Dean would be mad at me." Jack asks as soon as they stop and can speak.
