Like she's probably worked out, there's plenty that's different a few centuries down the line; lot's changed and progressed, while a whole lot more's gotten worse. And his life more specifically was shaped by the fact that he'd been born — for all intents and purposes — illegally. No one on Basic's supposed to have kids unless their time comes up in the lottery. Same with jobs. So some people might never get a chance to do any kind of work they actually wanna do.

He didn't have much of a choice in it; the mom he never knew was doing the only thing she could at the time. And he — well. He got pulled into that same life. ]

It ain't. [ Great, that is. It's shit. There's a whole lot underneath those two words, a whole lot of past in his past, but his expression remains mostly impassive. Not a lot of legitimate jobs unless you got money already so Basic keeps people on the bare minimum. I got out, though, when I was — sixteen. Got a mechanical apprenticeship on an ice hauler out in space. Been out there ever since.

[ Except for his brief trip back to Earth just recently, just before all of...this. There is a lot more to his life, of course, that he holds back. Just like a lot of people, he figures. Like Wanda, too, though he's got a little glimpse of her past now. ]

What's 2015 like?
