[ Nobody goes fishing again after that. He asks the owner about it once, gets a nervous laugh that tells him all he needs to know, and decides he's better off ordering a coffee and never bringing it up again.

The other guy continues to be there. Apparently, they work the same odd hours, somehow end up here together a lot. Not always; a couple times a week, Logan's missing—and one time, around week two, he's gone for four full days before he shows back up.

Day ten, in other words. He comes in later that morning, catches his silent buddy on the way out. It's the first time Logan offers any kind of greeting: a nod as he holds the door for a half-second, just long enough for Frank to reach up and catch a hold of it himself. Practically royalty-level manners from him.

Day twelve, Logan occupies a corner instead of the breakfast bar. He's got a book—a worn, boring-looking paperback he pilfered from somewhere. When the guy walks past toward the bathroom, he turns a page without looking up and says: ]
Wouldn't go in there if I was you.

[ At the end of the second week, Logan's at the breakfast bar again. A shatter comes from somewhere in the kitchen, plates plates and cutlery collapsing. From opposite ends of the otherwise empty bar, their heads gopher up in tandem. ]
