[ the feeling is mutual, though karen doesn't quite realize that a lot of it is her urge for normalcy. for all the off-putting aspects of the resort, this place, the bar, the huts, they don't feel like constant reminders of how far from home she is. and maybe it's not smart, letting herself relax here, but she also recognizes that she needs it. to not think about survival. to let her hair down just a little bit. she's been chatting, friendly, with anyone she can - but most of the exchanges have been shallow, and pretty short. she assumes it's people who, understandably, are here for the stuff they can take with them and then to leave as soon as they can, and don't care enough to know the others. she doesn't blame them- some times it takes all you have just to keep your head down and deal with what you have, but karen is here at least for a few days, and the alcohol and the forced time to relax is doing her at least some good.
